Any help

Well, this week started out great. We were all semi-healthy. Then Brandon came down with Croup. It really kind of started to scare me because he couldn't keep anything down and would have coughing spells about every half hour. So I took him to urgent care and gave him two shots, and some antibiotics for a secondary infection. Now James has the cough and there is nothing to do for the little guy except sit and listen to him struggle. He hasn't vommited yet, but he can hardly even cry. Does anyone know of anything to do for an infant. We went to the Dr.s yesterday and they said to watch really close and if he gets a fever and labored breathing to where the skin on his ribs are sunk in to bring him back in. We have a follow up tomorrow and hopefully they will be able to do something for the little guy. He sounds so miserable. He did gain 4.1 lbs in the first two months of life. That's good news.

Poor little guy. No offense, but I'm glad now that we didn't come. I'm so sorry that Brandon and James both have croup! That's aweful. I've heard that running a humidifier and circulating cool air helps with croup, or sitting in a steamy bathroom for 10 minutes will help with the cough. Watch him close becuase I think it's more likely to turn into pnumonia in infants. I feel so bad. Give them both hugs for me!

Oh I'm so sorry. I have no idea. Sounds like your last commenter had some good ideas. The log furniture your hubby made is amazing. They turned out so good. I hope that things stay in control until your next Dr. Apt.

Hmmm, I'm surprised that the Dr. didn't prescribe a steroid in liquid form for the little guy, to open airways a bit more. That's what we had to do with our first when he got croup the winter after he was born (he was born in Sept, but was only 4 lbs. 15 oz, so by winter was finally the size of a normal newborn.) They sent us home with a bottle of it, and we gave him a squirt orally every few hours so he didn't struggle as much to breathe. Maybe the doctor didn't think your case of croup was that bad (it often sounds worse than it is). However, watch him close and don't feel bad about taking him to the ER if it seems he's struggling to get a breath with those coughs. The humidity helps, but so does COLD. We found that some time outside (wrapped to stay warm) but breathing cold air calmed his cough. That was a doctors advice, by the way.
